Nurturing Childhoods is an early childhood consultancy, offering advice and support in person and through online courses and memberships. It is a Limited company registered under Dr Kathryn Peckham, who has a Tier 1 registration with the Information Commissioner’s Office under number ZA210627.  Nurturing Childhoods is registered at 138 Bromham Road, Bedford, England, MK40 2QW.  Company number 12787179.

Nurturing Childhoods (“Company”) holds and processes information about our service users for various purposes, however we are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Statement details our current privacy practices regarding the information we collect when you or your computer interact with our website. It outlines the types of personal information received and collected by the website, how that information is used, and what choices you have with respect to that information.  By accessing www.nurturingchildhoods.co.uk, you acknowledge and fully understand the Company’s Privacy Statement and freely consent to the information collection and use practices described in this Website Privacy Statement.

We only collect information about you if we have a reason to do so–for example, to provide our Services, to communicate with you, or to make our Services better. We collect information in three ways: if and when you provide information to us, automatically through operating our Services, and from outside sources.

Information You Provide to Us

It’s probably no surprise that we collect information that you provide to us. The amount and type of information depends on the context and how we use the information. Here are some examples:

Account Data

To use certain features (like accessing content), you need to create a user account. When you create or update your account, we collect and store the data you provide, like your email address, password, address and phone number and assign you a unique identifying number (“Account Data”).

Shared Content

Parts of the Services let you interact with other users or share content publicly, including by posting reviews about content, asking or answering questions, and sharing messages with other users. Such shared content may be publicly viewable by others depending on where it is posted.

Educational Content Data

When you access content, we collect certain data including which courses you’ve started and completed; content purchases; subscriptions and completion certificates.

Payment Data

If you make purchases, we collect certain data about your purchase (such as your name and address) as necessary to process your order. You must provide certain payment and billing data directly to our payment service providers, including your name, credit card information, and billing address. We may also receive limited information, like the fact that you have a new card and the last four digits of that card, from payment service providers to facilitate payments. For security, Nurturing Childhoods does not collect or store sensitive cardholder data, such as full credit card numbers or card authentication data.

Data About Your Accounts on Other Services

We may obtain certain information through your social media or other online accounts if they are connected to your account. If you login to Nurturing Childhoods via Facebook or another third-party platform or service, we ask for your permission to access certain information about that other account. For example, depending on the platform or service we may collect your name, profile picture, account ID number, login email address, location, physical location of your access devices, gender, birthday, and list of friends or contacts.

Those platforms and services make information available to us through their APIs. The information we receive depends on what information you (via your privacy settings) or the platform or service decide to give us.

If you access or use our Services through a third-party platform or service, or click on any third-party links, the collection, use, and sharing of your data will also be subject to the privacy policies and other agreements of that third party.

Promotions, and Surveys

We may invite you to complete a survey or participate in a promotion, either through the Services or a third-party platform. If you participate, we will collect and store the data you provide as part of participating, such as your name, email address, postal address, date of birth, or phone number. That data is subject to this Privacy Policy unless otherwise stated in the official rules of the promotion or in another privacy policy. The data collected will be used to administer the promotion or survey, including for notifying winners and distributing rewards. To receive a reward, you may be required to allow us to post some of your information publicly (like on a winner’s page). Where we use a third-party platform to administer a survey or promotion, the third party’s privacy policy will apply.

If you contact us for support or to report a problem or concern (regardless of whether you have created an account), we collect and store your contact information, messages, and other data about you like your name, email address, messages, location, user ID, refund transaction IDs, and any other data you provide or that we collect through automated means (which we cover below). We use this data to respond to you and research your question or concern, in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

When you access the Services (including browsing content), we collect certain data by automated means, including:

Log Information

Like most online service providers, we collect information that web browsers, mobile devices, and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, IP address, unique device identifiers, language preference, referring site, the date and time of access, operating system, and mobile network information. We collect log information when you use our Services–for example, when you create or make changes to your account.

Usage Information

Usage statistics about your interactions with the site, including content accessed, time spent on different pages or the Service, pages visited, features used, your search queries, click data, date and time, referrer, and other data regarding your use of the Services We also collect information about what happens when you use our Services, for example the pages you view). We use this information to, for example, provide our Services to you, as well as get insights on how people use our Services, so we can make our Services better.

Approximate Geographic Data

An approximate geographic location, including information like country, city, and geographic coordinates, calculated based on your IP address. We collect and use this information to, for example, calculate how many people visit our Services from certain geographic regions.

Purposes for Using Information

We use your data to do things like provide our Services, communicate with you, troubleshoot issues, secure against fraud and abuse, improve and update our Services, analyse how people use our Services, serve personalised advertising, and as required by law or necessary for safety and integrity.

We use information about you as mentioned above and for the purposes listed below:

Strictly Necessary

To provide our Services–for example, to set up and maintain your account or charge you for any of our paid Services.  These Data Collection Tools enable you to access the site, provide basic functionality (like logging in or accessing content), secure the site, protect against fraudulent logins, and detect and prevent abuse or unauthorised use of your account. These are required for the Services to work properly, so if you disable them, parts of the site will break or be unavailable.

Provide and administer the Services, including to facilitate participation in educational content, issue completion certificates, display customised content, identify unique users across devices and facilitate communication.

Functional

To monitor and prevent any problems with our Services, protect the security of our Services, detect and prevent fraudulent transactions and other illegal activities, fight spam, and protect the rights and property of Nurturing Childhoods and others, which may result in us declining a transaction or the use of our Services.

These Data Collection Tools remember data about your browser and your preferences, provide additional site functionality, customize content to be more relevant to you, and remember settings affecting the appearance and behaviour of the Services (like your preferred language or volume level for video playback).

Performance

To further develop and improve our Services–for example by adding new features that we think our users will enjoy.  These Data Collection Tools help measure and improve the Services by providing usage and performance data, visit counts, traffic sources, or where an application was downloaded from. These tools can help us test different features or content to see what users prefer and determine which email messages are opened. To monitor and analyse trends and better understand how users interact with our Services, which helps us improve our Services and make them easier to use.

To communicate with you about your account by responding to your questions and concerns; sending you administrative messages and information, including notifications about changes to our Service and updates to our agreements; sending you information, such as by email or text messages, about your progress in courses and related content, rewards programs, new services, new features, promotions, newsletters, and other available content (which you can opt out of at any time).

Advertising

To measure, gauge, and improve the effectiveness of our advertising, and better understand user retention and attrition–for example, we may analyse how many individuals purchased a course after receiving a marketing message or the features used by those who continue to use our Services after a certain length of time.

These Data Collection Tools are used to deliver relevant ads (on the site and/or other sites) based on things we know about you like your Usage and System Data (as detailed in Section 1), and things that the ad service providers know about you based on their tracking data. The ads can be based on your recent activity or activity over time and across other sites and services. To help deliver tailored advertising, we may provide these service providers with a hashed, anonymised version of your email address (in a non-human-readable form) and content that you share publicly on the Services. To communicate with you, for example through an email, about offers and promotions offered by Nurturing Childhoods and others we think will be of interest to you, solicit your feedback, or keep you up to date on Nurturing Childhoods and our products. To personalise your experience using our Services, provide content recommendations, target our marketing messages to groups of our users (for example, those who have purchased a particular course or have been our user for a certain length of time), and serve relevant advertisements.

Social Media

These Data Collection Tools enable social media functionality, like sharing content with friends and networks. These cookies may track a user or device across other sites and build a profile of user interests for targeted advertising purposes.

Legal Bases for Collecting and Using Information

The legal basis we rely on to process your personal data is either Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR, for example when we require your consent for the optional cookies we use, or article 6(1)(f) of the UK GDPR, which allows us to process personal data when its necessary for the purposes of our legitimate interests. The purpose for implementing all of the below on our websites is to maintain and monitor the performance of our websites and to constantly look to improve the site and the services we offer to our users.  Our use of your information is based on the grounds that:

(1) The use is necessary to fulfil our commitments to you under our Terms of Service or other agreements with you or is necessary to administer your account–for example, in order to enable access to our website on your device or charge you for a paid plan; or

We do not sell our users’ private personal information.  We do share information about you in the limited circumstances spelled out below and with appropriate safeguards on your privacy:

Subsidiaries, Employees, and Independent Contractors

We may disclose information about you to our subsidiaries, our employees, and individuals who are our independent contractors that need to know the information in order to help us provide our Services or to process the information on our behalf. We require our subsidiaries, employees, and independent contractors to follow this Privacy Policy for personal information that we share with them.

Third Party Vendors and Processors

We may share information about you with third party vendors or processors who need to know information about you in order to provide their services to us, or to provide their services to you or your site. This group includes vendors that help us provide our Services to you (like payment providers that process your credit and debit card information, fraud prevention services that allow us to analyse fraudulent payment transactions, postal and email delivery services that help us stay in touch with you, customer chat and email support services that help us communicate with you, those that assist us with our marketing efforts (e.g. by providing tools for identifying a specific marketing target group or improving our marketing campaigns).

Analytics

When you visit our website we use a third-party service, Google Analytics, to collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns. We do this to find out such things as the number of visitors to the various parts of the site. This information is only processed in a way that does not identify anyone. We do not make, and do not allow Google to make, any attempt to find out the identities of those visiting our website.

Legal Requests

We may disclose information about you in response to a subpoena, court order, or other governmental request.

To Protect Rights, Property, and Others

We may disclose information about you when we believe in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the property or rights of Nurturing Childhoods, third parties, or the public at large.

Business Transfers

In connection with any merger, sale of company assets, or acquisition of all or a portion of our business by another company, or in the unlikely event that Nurturing Childhoods goes out of business or enters bankruptcy, user information would likely be one of the assets that is transferred or acquired by a third party. If any of these events were to happen, this Privacy Policy would continue to apply to your information and the party receiving your information may continue to use your information, but only consistent with this Privacy Policy.

With Your Consent

We may share and disclose information with your consent or at your direction. For example, we may share your information with third parties with which you authorise us to do so.

Aggregated or De-Identified Information

We may share information that has been aggregated or reasonably de-identified, so that the information could not reasonably be used to identify you. For instance, we may publish aggregate statistics about the use of our Services. De-identified data means data where we’ve removed things like your name and email address and replaced it with a token ID. This allows these providers to provide analytics services or match your data with publicly available database information (including contact and social information from other sources). We do this to communicate with you in a more effective and customised manner.

To Power Social Media Features

The social media features in the Services (like the Facebook Like button) may allow the third-party social media provider to collect things like your IP address and which page of the Services you’re visiting, and to set a cookie to enable the feature. Your interactions with these features are governed by the third-party company’s privacy policy.

To Administer Promotions and Surveys

We may share your data as necessary to administer, market, or sponsor promotions and surveys you choose to participate in, as required by applicable law (like to provide a winners list or make required filings), or in accordance with the rules of the promotion or survey.

For Advertising

If we decide to use an advertising-supported revenue model in the future, we may use and share certain System Data and Usage Data with third-party advertisers and networks to show general demographic and preference information among our users. We may also allow advertisers to collect System Data through Data Collection Tools (as detailed in Section 2.1), to use this data to offer you targeted ad delivery to personalise your user experience (through behavioural advertising), and to undertake web analytics. Advertisers may also share with us the data they collect about you. Published Feedback

And if you send us feedback, for example on the use of a course, we reserve the right to publish that feedback to help us respond to it or to help us to support other users.

We generally discard information about you when we no longer need the information for the purposes for which we collect and use it – which are described in the section above on How and why we use information – and we are not legally required to continue to keep it.

For example, we keep the web server logs that record information about a visitor to Nurturing Childhoods, such as the visitor’s IP address, browser type, and operating system, for approximately 30 days. We retain the logs for this period of time in order to, among other things, analyse traffic to the website and investigate issues if something goes wrong.

You have several choices available when it comes to information about you:

Limit the Information that You Provide

If you have an account with us, you can choose not to provide the optional account information, and transaction and billing information. Please keep in mind that if you do not provide this information, certain features of our Services–for example, paid for courses, may not be accessible.

Opt-Out of Electronic Communications

You may opt out of receiving promotional messages from us. Just follow the instructions in those messages. If you opt out of promotional messages, we may still send you other messages, like those about your account and legal notices.

Set Your Browser to Reject Cookies

You can usually choose to set your browser to remove or reject browser cookies before using the Nurturing Childhoods website, with the drawback that certain features of the website may not function properly without the aid of cookies. Close Your Account

While we’d be very sad to see you go, if you no longer want to use our Services, you can request your account to be closed by contacting us via email. Please keep in mind that we may continue to retain your information after closing your account, as described in How long we keep information above – for example, when that information is reasonably needed to comply with (or demonstrate our compliance with) legal obligations such as law enforcement requests, or reasonably needed for our legitimate business interests.

While no online service is 100% secure, we work very hard to protect information about you against unauthorised access, use, alteration, or destruction.  And take reasonable measures to do so, such as monitoring our Services for potential vulnerabilities and attacks. 

As with any internet-enabled system, there is always a risk of unauthorised access, so it’s important to protect your password.  You should not share your password with any third party and if you believe your password or account has been compromised, you should change it immediately and contact our Support Team with any concerns, or if you suspect any unauthorised access to your account. 

Under data protection law, you have rights we need to make you aware of. Accessing your data

You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal information. This right always applies. There are some exemptions, which means you may not always receive all the information we process.

You have the right to ask us to rectify information you think is inaccurate. You also have the right to ask us to complete information you think is incomplete. This right always applies.

You have the right to ask us to erase your personal information in certain circumstances.

We do not specifically market to or knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 for marketing purposes. Because some information is collected online, it may not appear to be the personal information of a child under 13. If a child under 13 submits personal information to us and we learn that the personal information is the information of a child under 13, we will attempt to delete the information as soon as possible. If you are under 13, please do not register for any of our services or provide us any information about yourself (such as your name, email address or phone number).  Parents who believe we’ve unintentionally collected personal data about their underage child should contact us for help deleting that information.

You can usually access, correct, or delete your personal data using your account settings and tools that we offer, but if you aren’t able to do that, or you would like to contact us about one of the other rights, contact us at [email protected].

Occasionally, at our discretion, we may include or offer third party products or services on our website. These third-party sites have separate and independent privacy policies that we have no responsibility or liability for.

We do however recommend and encourage that you always review the privacy policies of merchants and other third parties before you provide any personal information or complete any transaction with such parties.  That said, we seek to protect the integrity of our site and welcome any feedback about these affiliate sites.

Active Campaign

Active Campaign is a marketing automation service and CRM which is used by Nurturing Childhoods to facilitate our email newsletters and mailing lists. Information like your email address, name, location, customer history, and interest tags will be stored in Active Campaign upon purchase or when subscribing to our mailing lists.

Calendly

Calendly is a meeting scheduling tool that collects name, email addresses, and requested meeting times. Nurturing Childhoods uses Calendly to allow people to schedule a meeting with Nurturing Childhoods. Google Analytics

Google Analytics is a data gathering and reporting service which is utilised to help us understand how our website is being used so we can improve our user experiences. PayPal

PayPal is a credit card and online payments processing. During ecommerce transactions your name, email address, and billing address will be sent to PayPal to validate your purchases and prevent against fraud. Stripe

Stripe is a credit card payment processor. During ecommerce transactions your name, email address, and billing address will be sent to Stripe to validate your purchases and prevent against fraud. Zoom

Zoom is an online virtual meeting and webinar platform. Nurturing Childhoods uses Zoom to conduct private and group meetings and webinars for the purpose of answering presales questions and conducting informational webinars that may also include sales promotional content. Zoom is also used to record webinars and podcast interviews. Sometimes Zoom webinars require registration and collect username, email address, and attendance information. We regularly review and, where necessary, update our privacy information. If we make any material change to it, we will notify you via email, through a notification posted on the Services, or as required by applicable law. We will also include a summary of the key changes. Unless stated otherwise, modifications will become effective on the day they are posted.

As permitted by applicable law, if you continue to use the Services after the effective date of any change, then your access and/or use will be deemed an acceptance of (and agreement to follow and be bound by) the revised Privacy Policy.
